Description: Hey There! I'm Valerie and I am starting my permaculture project in Teresopolis (Brazil), a beautiful city at the mountains, 100 kilometers from Rio. My mom went back to Germany after twenty years living here and gave me her house to keep. I've been traveling the past two years around Brazil, time in which I could work in a couple of farms and learn a little more about Permaculture. Moving back to the city where I grew up wasn't the plan, I would say I'm more a tent person, but somehow it made me think about the spaces already occupied and gave me strength to try to reinvent the possibilities and fight to get closer from autonomy. Even though more and more people are starting to think different and changing the ways of living, the situation is frightful in the most parts of the country. I'm really worried about the water shortages we've been facing the past 10 years. Teresopolis is responsible for the production of 90 percent of the vegetables of the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and it mostly it's full of poison, the water is poorly managed, and the population feeding can be really cheaper and healthier. The place where we are situated is not so big and still not sustainable at all. I want to change this. There is a great garden to improve and a lot of tools to recycle. Since not everyone (me inclusive) have the opportunity to move to a farm, I expect to find more and better ways to bring permaculture concepts also in the city. The work would include agroforestry techniques, garden and recycling activities, it depends on the demand.
Accommodation: Camping or a room, it depends of the availability.
Food: I provide basic food to cook in the campfire! No meat :D

Type of property: family rural
Size (ha): 5
Crops: pineapple, plum, banana, bean guandu, cassava, maracuja ... (Diverse agroforestry)
We speak: Portuguese, English, Spanish
Description: Our space is located on a property that works with services of adventure, leisure, lodging, and also has its own brewery and pub (where we manufacture and sell craft beer produced on the farm). However, we live in a reserved area, which goes from the lower part of the hill (where our permanent preservation area is located) to the high part, a large part that was previously used for pasture. Our activities are concentrated at the top of the hill, where we already have a house that can house volunteers (maximum 2), and that is near the area where we usually focus our energies, the agroforestry yard. The activities vary widely, we are still at the beginning of a reforestation project, so we are planting a lot. And because we are in the hillside area, we are making infiltration ditches, as well as banana circles, contour lines, soil cover, cutting (especially manual), seedling irrigation. In addition, we have some other activities in the area of bioconstruction. We ask for at least half days help with the activities on the farm.
Accommodation: We have 1 sofa-bed in the main house (double) that will be available, but only for people who do not mind keeping the space extremely organized, because on the weekends you will have the company of my parents. Another option, which may give more freedom, is to camp, we have a good space near the house, but if it is a preference of volunteers it is possible to camp in the area closest to the forest.
Food: My diet is basically on roots, grains, fruits, especially whatever is PANC. I like to have a good time to prepare my food, and sometimes I prepare only one big meal a day, which I will have great pleasure to share. The kitchen is open, we have gas stove, and wood stove. Volunteers are welcome to do as many meals as they need each day.
We are: a family. My sister, my parents, and some dogs.

Description: This is the first year (2017) I'm here. I'm at the beginning of activities. My first goal is to be able to grow everything we eat. As a Permaculture student I am planning the property so you can get the best outcome. At the end of August / 17, the planting of the food will start, as well as the beginning of the planting of the hedge. I do not raise animals like cattle, pigs or chickens. I only have a pond where I will raise some fish. Anyone who wants to spend some time here, will learn to work with vegetable gardening, natural fertilization (bokashi, efficient microorganisms, compost), homeopathy and some notions of orchard of fruit trees, as well as handling the planting of food to be cultivated. I have plans to catch the rainwater and the spring. I would like to welcome people who are willing to help, give ideas that can improve the place and exchange experiences. In 2018 I will start planting the seedlings to create an Agroforest (which will be the main focus), I will follow the plantation of a green fence, and also reforest the banks of the water source.

Description: Teresopolis is a city located less than 100km from Rio de Janeiro. Very easy to get to. Our property is in the process of being certified in the organic system and gradually we are expanding the arable area, because there was nothing planted, only pasture. We are reforesting a part of the property. We need help in everything we can, kitchen, garden, plantation. We work on average 4 hours a day.
Accommodation: For one person we can offer a shared room in the house (with me), for two or three only in camping stalls as we do not have accommodation for collaborators yet. We have WI-FI.

We speak: Portuguese, English, and a little spanish
Description: A family farm, where we plant fruits and vegetables, and a fish farm. Part of our land is forest. Our production in principle is for our own consumption, and we sell what is left. We do not use agrotoxics and we are starting the process to become an organic producer. We need help with preparation of land for planting, maintenance and cleaning of land already planted, harvesting, maintenance of tanks and fishing. There is a main house where we live, and also a small house for volunteers. There are still a few things left to finish at the volunteers' house, such as installing a sewer system, a toilet in the bathroom, and locks on doors and windows. There is only one person who is responsible for the property, so we need volunteers who are experieced with relevant activities, and who needs little guidance and support.
Accommodation: A small house for volunteers, with living, kitchen, one room and washroom (the washroom is under construction- volunteers can use ours until then). The living can be used as another bedroom. It already has a double bed and a sofa bed, and we can put in another single bed. There is also space to camp if anyone wants. The ideal would be 2 or 3 volunteers.
Food: Volunteers use the kitchen in their home, and prepare all their meals. We provide basic food such as rice, beans, bread, coffee, fruits and vegetables from the farm when available (or purchased when not), and fish from tanks when available. We do not provide meat, but volunteers can buy if you like and prepare meat if you want.

Crops: Various agroecological - fruits, vegetables, vegetables, tubers, animals ...
We speak: Portuguese, English, Italian, Spanish
Description: At the end of 2007 we began work on the family's half colony, which used to produce grapes, corn and fruits. In 2008, we took its first steps in search of the philosophy that still prevails: to live in harmony with nature, to produce healthy food, to raise animals and to surprise the customers in the excellence and quality of our dishes. In 2009, most of the renovations in the house were underway and the restaurant was producing its first dishes on the wood stove ... Since then the restaurant has followed the concepts of ecogastronomy and agroecology. We offer an immersion to NATURE'S KITCHEN, we work on the connection between MAN and LAND, local biodiversity, relationships with organic producers, rescue of old techniques of preparation and the challenge of the daily creative process using only what the mother earth has to offer us today. We work with more than 35 families of local farmers and involve thousands of people throughout this process of re-encounter with harmony with ecosystems. The preparation of the dishes begins when we identify producers willing to change to the path of biodiversity, the valorization of the integral product, the less processing the better and the affection with the people.
The property plant a biodiversity so we are not experts in a single culture but rather in respect to land. We have many animals and from them comes our milk, our wool, meat.

Remembering that at the moment we are the disease, but also, the only cure of this planet. We can generate more resources than we consume, we can live in peace with people, remembering that love is the main objective! Coincidences happen, encounters are made, connections are made, the land guides and approaches us, gives us the opportunity, fills our lungs and cleanses our eyes to see the reconciliation !!! The property is in the begining steps. Installation of water, construction of the first house and bathrooms, and first plantings. We are beginning to establish ourselves on a raw land and roots. Description: Family property at the foot of Serra da Canastra, in the south of Minas Gerais and next to Furnas Lake. Lots of nature around: waterfalls, canyons, rivers, etc. I am taking the first steps towards making part of my family's property an ecovillage based on the principles of permaculture, spiritual well-being and the spread of social technologies to the community. The property is 1 km from the city and taking advantage of the proximity to the urban center, the vegetable trade is our flagship. I'm starting an agroforestry system in a degraded part due to livestock farming. This SAF will serve as a catalyst for reforestation of the property, provider of internal food security, as well as bank and seed multiplier. In parallel will be made a house using bioconstruction techniques, where I will move in and share with the volunteers. Once the SAFs techniques has been established, I would like to assist family farmers in the region to transition from the conventional system to agroforestry, improving their living conditions and the environment.
Accommodation: Maximum of 3 volunteers at the moment: 1 volunteer in mattress in the house; 2 in tent. We have three tents, each one with capacity for 4 people. One of them is waterproof. At the sound of the water or by the fire could deliver the thoughts at random, quieting the mind and dive within ourselves and be One with silence, with the whole, with Heaven and Earth Our concern is with the development of the human being as a whole (not only with the daily work), so we sit down to chat and share in groups and divide the tasks. Our long term plan is to build a Green Condo interested in living rurally and in community in a different way of life in nature and in harmony with the pillars of sustainability. We are situated at 10 minutes from the town of Abadiania, where the world renowned Psychic John of God Healing serves thousands of people around the world in the days of Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Participating in the Energy Chain charity this house is a unique and transforming experience. A receiving and giving of energy!! Type of property: spiritual community
Size (ha): big
Crops: 2 small organic gardens
We speak: Portugues English Spanish German
Description: Our project began with 12 individuals from different parts of the world. We started the project with a very open mind, not knowing exactly how it would formulate. The only certainty we had, was that we would not deviate from our common purpose, which was to learn together to genuinely: "Love your neighbor as yourself". Eventually, through persisting together and gaining a clearer vision, the Sanctuary became a bright, loving 'neighborhood' that offers its space to volunteers and students internationally, to learn of our demonstration and the manner in which it is integrated into our daily tasks without compromising our core values. SERVICE The willingness to serve and give everything is a must. We usually have some kind of construction project on the go, so those with carpentry, building, plumbing, electrical skills, use of chainsaw, etc are always welcome, as well as a mechanic to keep our vehicles, lawnmowers, chainsaw, strimmers maintained. On a day-to-day basis, you could be helping onsite with things like cleaning, kitchen, gardening, maintenance, construction, etc. To keep our landscape (=mind) beautiful, requires constant attention; mowing the grass, clearing undergrowth, etc. In a more supplementary capacity, as part of our Community Outreach program, there may also be opportunities to volunteer & offer any skills you have at our local school (please note the school is closed in from December - January and July - August). The house is an integrated demonstration; a miraculous example of how consistency, patience and trust in the benevolence of the Universe produces results. This next season we are expanding the vegetable garden as well as our Orchard. We don´t radically try to sustain a 100% organic garden. Rather, our focus lies on simplicity and resourcefulness. (As a natural effect, our produce ends up being organic - but we don´t obsess over that). We are looking for minds which are open to the miraculous and are able to offer simple solutions. The organic approaches to growing are always welcome as long as it is understood that we are not interested in making an ideology out of it. The volunteering hours are short (4 hours), but most of the time very physical. We need a lot of help in the fields and in the garden: preparing the soil and beds, sowing, weeding, digging holes, mulching, harvesting and so on. If you feel inclined to be a part of this garden project specifically, please say so in your application to us. APPLICATIONS --------------------------------------- We only consider applications that answer the following question: "If you had to summarise your reasons to volunteer with us in 3 lines, what would you say?" --------------------------------------- If you are able to respond in English, this would be preferable but not essential. Please really take your time to think about this question and to feel it out, as it is very important to us. If you have any specific skills, please state them as well. Please note, we have a large number of inquiries many of whom start booking 2 months ahead, so our advice is not to leave it until the last minute if you really feel a passion to stay with us. Once you have made a firm reservation, we will send you all the details for your stay here. "
Food: Guys tend to help themselves in the morning for breakfast (homemade bread & jams, local milk & cheese, eggs & fruit delivered twice a week. ), some in the Main House and some in their own houses - the Guest House has a little mini kitchen area. We have our main meal at lunch. Food is predominantly vegetarian Brazilian diet with additions from our organic garden: lunch tends to be rice, beans, vegetable dish and salad.
We are: The residents (about 30 of us) are from all over the globe: Spain, England, Germany, Austria, Canada, States, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador; plus a thriving movement of volunteers coming in & out.
When to come: all year around
Additional comments: Please remember this is a fairly simple, rural location so you will not need a huge amount of stuff - we recommend not bringing more than two small suitcases or backpack for personal belongings. These items are essential: Torch/flashlight, Walking/work boots, work clothes (& work gloves would be useful), protective sun hat & alarm clock.

Description: The farm has 2 hectares, and is located in a lush rainforest region with several rivers and waterfalls. The project is still in its early stages. We conduct activities related to permaculture and agroecology, among them; the first house on site (biobuilding), do some seedlings of native and fruit trees that are aimed at an experimental area of agroforestry. We are still installed ourselves on camping, we have a shed where is the provisional collective kitchen, a dry toilet and cold shower. The site does not have electricity. We need people of great determination who identify with a very natural environment, willing to live collectively, open to interact with the differences and with very little infrastructure.
Accommodation: Camping area, where comfort will depend on the structure that the volunteer has. We can receive two volunteers at a time.
Food: Collective and open and lacto-ovo vegetarian cuisine.
We are: two friends who are natives of the region, starting a farm guided mainly by permaculture. We are already developing projects in eco-tourism and adventure. We see a chance to reconcile permaculture and agro-ecological activities with the potential of tourism of the region and can thus further expand the focus given to these activities.
When to come: all year
Additional comments: I believe that the volunteer will like to learn about biobuilding (activity that is being developed at the moment) and will like the life that thrives in the natural environment and with easy smile staff in an environment with music, poetry, waterfall. In the days off the volunteer may check out the tourist sites of the region.

Description: We are an international community that was founded three years ago by five young friends in search of a truly self-sufficient and sustainable way of living. Situated on the border of Caparao National Park, a region located within the Atlantic Rainforest, is among the most biodiverse regions in the world ? it is home to a greater number of distinct species per m2 than the Amazon Rainforest! The site covers an area of three hectares (30,000m2) of steeply sloping terrain which has been cultivated according to permaculture practices. In addition to the three houses built on the property, there is plenty of space for camping. Our houses and other buildings (tool shed, compost toilet, etc.) were constructed with materials reclaimed from urban demolitions and materials found naturally in the surrounding environment including clay, reforested wood, bamboo and stone. We use compost toilets which provide us with a consistent source of organic fertilizer which goes back into the earth to nourish our perennial crops. Likewise, 100% of organic waste from our kitchen goes directly back into the earth, thereby reducing overall energy losses. Although we have not achieved 100% reliance on food that we grow, the majority of what we eat comes from what we plant and collect locally in the region. We always maintain the possibility for the exchange of labour, handicrafts and agricultural products with our neighbours and above all, we aim to promote the practice of a sustainable solidarity economy within our network of conviviality. The WWOOFer can experience agricultural practices and life within a community that demands very low overall energetic costs. All farming is done without the use of machines, without refrigerators, or electric heating.
